CPC Exam
The CPC exam awards successful test-takers with the Certified Professional Coder Certification. This credential helps employers and other professionals see your competency and expertise in coding medical service.
The exam is a 100-question multiple choice test that must be completed in one four-hour sitting. Tests are administered both in person and online and is open-book, meaning candidates may use the ICD-10-CM Official Guidelines and other approved coding books as reference materials during the exam.
CPC exam questions are presented as coding scenarios that cover 17 areas of knowledge. The largest focus is on proper application of CPT procedure codes, ICD-10-CM diagnosis codes, and HCPCS Level II supply codes. The final questions cover 10 cases designed to evaluate a candidate’s ability to read and accurately code medical records.
