The CPC exam consists of 100 multiple-choice questions that must be completed within a single four-hour session. It is available both online and in-person through authorized testing centers.
The exam is open-book, allowing you to reference approved coding manuals during the test. Permitted resources include:

What the CPC Exam Covers
The questions are based on real-world coding scenarios and test your ability to apply coding principles across 17 core knowledge areas. The primary focus is on:

Toward the end of the exam, you’ll encounter 10 case-based questions, which assess your ability to interpret clinical documentation and assign the most accurate codes to medical records.
